13 Movie Tag-Lines That Blatantly Lied To You

Ever walked out of a cinema feeling like the poster outside lied to you? We've all been there...

A good tag-line can be hard to come by. Sometimes, the perfect pun may present itself, and other times, they seem just a little too forced.

There are some occasions where tag-lines become so convoluted that they essentially just lie to the audience, and this often feels like a real slap in the face to moviegoers.

On some occasions, a tag-line even details key events of the movie's plot, and still somehow manages to tell audiences a lie.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, despite being the final film of a trilogy, was branded with the baffling tag-line “At the End of the World, the Adventure Begins”, proving that even some of the biggest blockbusters of recent times have fallen victim to their own ridiculously inaccurate tag-lines.

For the most part, these tag-line lies are never malicious, but it's either a cheap way to mislead an audience, or just an amusing error when the studio decides they want to make a few more of those big sequel bucks.

Here are 12 times that movie tag-lines blatantly lied to us (and maybe made us laugh a little, too).

13. The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift

Revenge Of The Sith Tagline

Tag-line: “If You Ain't Outta Control, You Ain't In Control.”

This tag-line is so edgy that half of all moviegoers that read it felt immediately dizzy.

Grammatical nightmares aside, it's also a blatant lie.

The movie follows Sean Boswell as he goes from an out-of-control teen in Arizona and onto the mean streets of Tokyo, where he learns a whole new style of racing, the supposedly mystical 'drift'.

The problem is, the entire story is about Boswell learning a little more discipline and self-control, making the tag-line little more than outrageous nonsense.

Boswell is very much not in control, and it takes the death of a friend to calm him by the slightest of fractions.

Not only does it sound awful, but the tag-line here clearly wasn't thought through, but, as a wise man once said, “if your tag-line ain't outta control, it isn't in control.”
