"Hello, You," - the words that Joe Goldberg spoke to us when he first laid eyes upon Guinevere Beck during the first season of YOU were recycled when the show was given new life by Netflix, following the streaming service's decision to fully take over from Lifetime after distributing it internationally. But could another season be more than just a recycling of its debut offering?
Yes, it's a question that fans of the show were asking upon the conclusion of its first season and it's one that they finally got their answer to when Netflix unveiled the second on Boxing Day (how aptly timed, you).
A season that vows to be different, it follows Penn Badgley's Joe Goldberg as he moves from New York to Los Angeles in a bid to start a new, quiet life - something that it is much easier said than done thanks to the arrival of his long-thought-to-be-dead ex-girlfriend Candace. The tale that ensues may be familiar as it recycles many of the thrilling conventions it did oh-so-well in its first offering, but it ups the ante in a huge way, adding more context to a story that already had us hooked to begin with.
It's not perfect, but it does feel like this was the story that YOU wanted to tell all along and that made it even more edge-of-seat than its predecessor.
