10 More Horror Movies Where The Villain Survives

You just can't keep a good horror movie villain down.

Let's imagine for a moment how dull Die Hard would be if Hans Gruber pulled out a parachute and survived his iconic fall. Or how anticlimactic it would've been if the T-1000 got up and walked away at the end of Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Simply put, a movie's villain usually has to die for the film to feel satisfying.

However, there is a genre where the typical rules of storytelling are bent, snapped, and broken. It's a genre where the villain usually steals the show and draws audiences in by the bucket-load. That's right, it's horror.

A great horror movie is only as good as its villain, which is why there are so many iconic baddies within the ranks. Sadly, while these villains often grasp all the attention, the vast majority of them still end up six feet under. But there are exceptions to the rule.

The following 10 entries will look though some amazing baddies who proved that horror is the home of the villains by living to tell the tale. If you think there are any missing, then check out the original article here.

10. Pastor Abin Cooper - Red State (2011)

Kevin Smith's Red State is an arresting movie that stands out within his repertoire of stoner flicks and goofy comedies. One thing that really helps it do so is the horrifying villain, Abin Cooper, played wonderfully by Michael Parks.

Cooper is a fanatical pastor with a hatred for anyone who doesn't fit within his world and a willingness to inflict "God's justice" upon them. As you can tell, he's a hateable bigot who leads a devout cult in horrible practices and prejudices.

Those who watch the film want nothing more than to see him get his comeuppance. However, he's still alive and well by the time credits role, albeit stuck in a jail cell doing time for his crimes.

Weirdly, Smith's original desired ending would have seen him cut in half by an angel with a great sword. Not saying that intended climax would have been better, but it would have at least been nice to see this man die horribly.
